Aber Petting Zoo 2007
Submitted by JB on 1 February 2008 - 7:02pm.
Aberystwyth 17th November 2007 Team: Pickers, Tank, Keir, Ste, Tiger, Chubb, JB -Friday-- After a good few hours of travelling, Chubb, Tiger and myself arrived at The Bay - the only place in Aber that seems not to have changed in some way since most of Aydub graduated. After meeting up with the rest of the team as well as meeting our opponents for the weekend, we avoided having green paint plastered over us and got on with a nice sensible game of I have never. At about 4 am, we all stumbled back to Jo's place where Ste was already sleeping along with his missus, Emma. Finally managing to ignore the smell of sex that still lingered, we all had a bit of a kip. --Saturday-- AWT wake up about an hour before the first game and are possibly still a little bit drunk. Waiting for ages for Jo to print off the ammended schedule, we went up the hill to the venue - The Sports Cage. It seemed Welsh translation wasn't the only thing we were awaiting as the Cage was also locked up nice and tight for a good fifteen minutes. During which time, Chubb occupied himself by lobbing Tiger's disc onto the roof. Once inside we got on with the first of four games. AWT vs. Reservoir Discs 1 On a slugish start, we had a spot of trouble against the Bangor lot where we were trading points for thw first 4 points or something. The only problem was that they scored first so if we wanted to win, we'd have to step it up. Changing to zone, we scored a good few on the bounce but they put up a good scrap. The game ended (I think) 11-5 to AWT. Next game was against the host's second team who had only one familiar face. AWT vs. Mwnci Do These guys did really well for a bunch who've only been playing for 3 months. Nick King had come along leaps and bounds as captain too, so credit to him. We kept our zone and used iso and quick turnovers to inflict damage. Eventually we won this game something like 12-0. By this point we realised that Mwnci See had beaten Ugly Ducklings 17-1 and as this tourney was based on points difference, we needed to score heavily in our next game if we were to win. AWT vs. Mwnci Wench Mwnci See's ladies team hasn't been going since 2002, so it was great to see that they were back, but consisting of an entirely new side compared to 5 years ago - obviously. We mixed up our D a bit but settled on playing man for most of this game. A great match that saw Jo shouting lots and their team molesting our players when we scored. Mat did his trademark no look backhand and we played well to win this game 16-0. They did play well though despite the score. Last game coming up, just so happen it was against the other team that had won everything so far - our hosts and the guys also gunning for the top spot. AWT vs. Mwnci See Okay, so we were feeling a bit cocky here. We'd won everything else comfortably and honestly thought that we'd walk this one. We were wrong. They played hard and fast and had the determination that always washes over a student team when they want to beat their graduate squad. After zone wasn't working to well thanks to their handlers, we went 3-2 down. Changing it to man, we stepped on the gas and took this game 7-4. A great game and a great final. After a weird hat tournament that saw everyone playing and me get injured. We collected our first place trophy and went our to party. --Sunday-- After spoons for breakfast, we watched Jo play rugby and heckled her before going for coffee. Then we all went home. Good stuff. We worked as a team so much that there's no need to really mention individuals as everyone played ace. Roll on Iron Fives for the AWT/Cowboys final. [ tags: Tournament Results ]
