History with Opponents

  • Metro State

We have never lost to Metro State, but that does not tell the whole story.  They are similar to us for the reason that they are tough, diligent and always ready to travel.  We have met them three time and most recently (fall 2003), beat them 60-24. The hosted the social at the Old Hole bar-home of the Denver Highlanders.  We could not ask for a finer opponent to beat up on a regular basis. We look forward to the conference Clash this fall. Updated 2005: Metro brought their A-game to our last match and barely escaped with the victory. This was the Team's first lost to Metro in our history. This will not happen again. See you guys October 2nd. Updated 2006: We traveled up to Metro and they beat us in a close match. Metro's backline played really well and we had no match for their superior coaching and recruits. They are at the top of their game and we must take them down to be champs ourselves. This is not far away.

  • Colorado College

We have only played these dudes three times. The first time we played them up in the springs, we killed them and they put on a lousy social. Last fall (2003) we played them at home and crushed them 50-something to 10-something. Most recently (Spring 2004) we played them on their turf following our "SinBin" camp and lost a close one. Once again, their social was a flop and the game was poorly unnoficated (Lack of a Ref). We look forward to hosting them next spring, and possibly in playoffs.

  • UNC

Move to Division One...make us all proud. (Note: Please Please Please Leave us ALL alone!!!) Updated 2005: UNC once again captured the division two national championship in 2005. wow.

  • Western State

We like these guys a lot.  They have had some traveling problems in the past, but that was because of a lack of numbers.   We played Western and UNC in our second "regular season match"-turned-mock tournament, and we learned the lesson they taught us that day.   Since then, we have held our ground, and last fall (2003), Western came to Alamosa and they played a hell of a match but the Grizzlies came out on top that day, 14-0. Most recently we met with the boys in a conference clash but won the game handily, 44-19. We look forward to hosting the boys September 25th. Update 2006: These dudes came to Alamosa and gave us a bit of a beating. We played like crap and they took it to us. But no hard feelings we love these guys and we are excited for the chance to pay them back. See you guys in April.

  • Chadron State

A new club like ourselves.  We have only played them twice in the Jackalope Tournament in Wyoming.  We shut them out both times.  They play in the division opposite us in the Eastern Colorado Rugby Union.

  • New Mexico Highlands

As of spring 2002 they became a new club. They are large, tough brutes, who can hang with anyone. WE play them at least once a semester. An annual game dedicated to one of the founding members of our club's (Micah Mills) brothers in held every spring. His name is Dakota Mills and because of a tragic collision he can longer play the game he loves, but we can do it for him. The winner of this match receives "The Dakota Mills Cup" and is reminded once again of how fragile our grip on life is. Every time we come together the score is disregarded, the weather forgotten and all we have left is the emotions that unite all of us: passion and Rugby.  Most recently we played them in Las Vegas and they won a close one, 24-17. It was a slow start for the Grizzlies but we pulled it together in the end to make it a great match.

  • Mesa State

These guys are tough.  We played for the first time (fall 2002) on their home turf.  It was,  without a shred of doubt, the most physical game we played all year.  We played them most recently this fall (2004) and won 60-7. It was homecoming and the Mavericks had no idea what hit them, but like always we finished up the days game with a jovial social.

  • School of Mines

Even when we garner enough guys in our program, we will still not rotate our pack in and out as much as Mesa and Mines do.   It's incredible.  Our pack is the foundation of the team, and not having those brutally lovable bastards in there on a constant basis is detrimental.  We played them the week after Mesa and lost by complete bias.  The score read 17-15, but that's B.S....period.  We scored twice in the last five minutes, but a Mines player kicked the ball after Clayton Shonk had placed it.  It was rumored the ref was watching twin boys chase a butterfly on the Mines sideline.  Complete bumnickel, and Mines had better know it.  Spring cannot come soon enough. Updated: We met up with the Orediggers in the finals of the 2003 Jackalope Tournament. It was a well fought match and there were no survivors. This match showed the young team what could be accomplished with the help of 5 specialized coaches, overseas recruitment and a school board that has their heads up the teams tailpipes. Well...we might be undercoached, disrespected and full of jovial ragamuffins, but at least we have our grassroots pride. They've dogged us a few times and this is an official CALLOUT to the mines' players: WE'LL PLAY YOU BITCHES ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, WITH OR WITHOUT YOUR MAMAS UNDERWEAR!!! Updated 2005: We completely dominated them on their home pitch-enough said. We look forward to doing it again October 9th. Updated 2006: In the Jackalope in August 2005, we were pitted against these dudes in a downright bare-knuckles brawl. They squeaked out a victory but not with out a few causalities. And one little mohawked whiny punk who started some shit came face to face with his worst nightmare. But of course like the daisies they are he wussed out and ran away with his tail tucked between his legs. We were suppose to play these fools in a match down at our place this past fall in the pulled out at the last second. Once again Mines are Bitches. They chickened out and its just down right pathetic. But don't worry Ladies, we'll play you anytime.

  • Utah

We played the Utah b-side in the first game of this years (2004) Jackalope tourney. Once again, the sleepy Grizzlies started slow and Utah took advantage with their crisp rucks and mauls. By the 2nd half everyone was awake but it was too late. Hopefully we can , meet up with the Utes next fall and make amends.

  • CU

We played and waxed CU's b-side in our one and only victory at the Jackalope. The Grizzlies came out firing after being embarrassed by Utah in the early game. As a part of the win, several Grizzlies made off with a couple of CU jerseys. Nice work boys.

  • CSU

We've played them twice now. The first time we played them came in the Jackalope (2003) It was a close game as the Grizzlies won 7-5. This year however, we played them on Sunday. This was a mistake. While everyone was hung over and sore, the grizzlies fought back punch for punch, however, they lost a close one.
